At a tense board meeting, Alachua County school leaders approved 19 new job positions Tuesday, part of a school system administrative reorganization plan pushed by Superintendent Carlee Simon.
Simon introduced her reorganization plan in May, which led to nine school administrators losing their positions. Simon has said the reorganization is needed to prepare the school system to handle a huge influx of federal dollars expected to come soon.
The meeting tension arose in the wake of former school board member Diyonne McGraw s seat being declared vacant last Thursday after she was found to live outside her district, leaving the five-member board with just four.
