Ford Is Acceting Proposals For Its Third HBC-You Mobility Challlenge

The Ford Motor Company Fund has announced its third annual HBC-You Mobility Challenge, a competition for Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) students. Ford is inviting HBCU students alumni, faculty, and staff to submit innovative and new proposals on smart mobility for a chance to win up to $25,000 in grants to get their ideas off the ground. All proposals must address the theme: Making Lives Better: Changing the Way We Move Through Smart Mobility. Last year’s winners include Morgan State University, which received $25,000 for its proposal to support the school’s food resource center by connecting students to resources and dietary advice through its Freshly (Food Resources & Expanded Shuttle for Healthy Living Year-round) Program.

When severe weather is in the forecast, or when a tornado or severe thunderstorm watch or warning is issued, are you able to tell if it includes you or not? Chances are, if you don t know where you live on a map, you may not find it so easy. Knowing where you live in being able to anticipate the many forms of severe weather that can occur throughout the year are important steps in ensuring you and your family are weather ready. When you begin to anticipate and prepare for severe weather, remember, no plan is complete. If you cannot find your location on a map today, we recommend everyone takes some time to lear

Obituary: William Michael Coppage

A lifetime of service to the community ended on Jan. 1, 2021 with the passing of William Michael “Mike” Coppage. Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Rose Eileen and George William Coppage. He is survived by his loving wife Judy and her children, daughter Joy Lawley, son Jason Lawley, granddaughter Julia Brown, and grandsons Mason Lawley and Braden Lawley, whom he loved very much. He is also survived by his sister Janet Buchannan (James) and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was a lifelong resident of the Birmingham area. He was a graduate of Woodlawn High School and attended Jacksonville State University.

Lilah Parish White

In the early hours of Wednesday – December 16, 2020; Mrs. Lilah Parish White gained her angel wings and entered the gates of heaven at the age of 75 years. Mrs. White was earthly sent on July 2, 1945 in Geneva, Alabama to Joseph Lafayette Parish and Elizabeth Dees Parish. Mrs. White had lived in the Ruth Community since 2012 and is formerly of Talladega, Alabama. Mrs. White spent the majority of her life caring for others as she was a school teacher with the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind. Later on in her life she retired her position and spent time traveling, reading, sewing, admiring ceramics and cross stitching, but she enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and grandchildren. She was a beloved and dedicated member of the Talladega Creek Baptist Church.
