420 Nigerian returnees arrive Abuja from Saudi Arabia – NiDCOM


Abuja, Feb. 3, 2021 (NAN) The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) says 420 Nigerian returnees arrived Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Abdul-Rahman Balogun, Head, Media, Public Relations and Protocols Unit of NiDCOM.
Balogun said on Wednesday that 27 of the 420 returnees were children while 393 were adults.
He stated that the returnees were received by senior government officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, NCDC and other relevant agencies.
Speaking at the airport, Amb. Akinremi Bolaji, Director Consular and Legal Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urged the returnees to cooperate with the government. ....

Nigeria repatriates hundreds of migrants from Saudi Arabia

ABUJA (Reuters) - Nigeria evacuated hundreds of its citizens from Saudi Arabia on Thursday after they overstayed their visas and were left stranded, two Reuters witnesses said.
The first returnees, clad in masks and flowing robes, could be seen walking across the tarmac after their plane landed in the capital Abuja.
High unemployment and two recessions in four years have pushed thousands of Nigerians to seek work overseas. But the coronavirus pandemic has reduced employment opportunities in other countries and travel restrictions have left many stranded.
A video circulating on social media in recent weeks had shown Nigerians who said they had been held in a camp in Saudi Arabia for more than three months while other countries had flown out their stranded citizens within two weeks or so. ....
