Two traders injured as gunmen attack vehicles in Jonglei Two traders were wounded on the outskirts of Uror County of Jonglei State when gunmen attacked three commercial vehicles on Wednesday, the county commissioner and police said. “Those traders left the county headquarters, Yuai for Juba to get goods before the Uror-Bor road is cut off by the rains. After reaching Gadiang, some armed bandits attacked them and sprayed bullets on three vehicles, injuring two traders,” Tang Chatim, the commissioner of Uror County, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday. Separately, Commissioner Chatim said: “Also, on the same day in the evening, Koat cattle camp in Pieri Payam was attacked. 79 cows were stolen but no one was killed. I appeal to my Pibor counterparts to recover the stolen animals.” ....
Over 30 senior SPLM members arrested in Bor More than 30 members of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party were on Tuesday evening arrested and detained by the police in Bor town, Jonglei State. Those arrested, most of whom are former constitutional post holders, said their arrest was politically motivated. One of the detainees, Gabriel Deng Ajak, told Radio Tamazuj Wednesday, “Our arrest is politically motivated. It has nothing to do with defamation. More than 30 of us were arrested because of the petition we wrote to President Kiir against the deputy governor. We were arrested by the deputy governor. We do not know anyone we defamed.” ....
Uror: Herdsman killed during cattle raid, 100 cows recovered A herdsman was killed and about 130 cows stolen during a raid in Uror County, Jonglei State were recovered last Wednesday evening, a local official said. Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, on Friday Tang Chatim, the Uror County commissioner, said, “A cattle camp in the Paluony area of Pieri Payam was attacked by an armed youth group on Wednesday evening. A camp youth leader was killed on the spot and 130 cows raided, but those stolen animals were later recovered by our local youth.” The local official pointed out that the county is calm despite the incident and called on armed Pibor bandits, whom he accused of the attack, to desist from cattle raids. ....
Bor police crackdown on gangs The police in Bor town of Jonglei State have started operations to crack down on gangs due to rising criminality in parts of the town. On Saturday, at least five people were injured when two rival gangs clashed during a music concert at Bor’s Freedom Square. “Our youth at the internally displaced people’s camp and those in the town were having a joint concert, but during the performances, there were some misunderstandings among some members of the groups leading to brawls. Five of our youth were injured but the situation was contained,” Diu Biliu Majok, a community leader at the Bor IDP Camp said. ....
Deadly ambush leaves two dead in Jonglei Two people were killed, one injured while four others are still missing after their vehicles were ambushed by armed men on Wednesday while they were traveling from Bor to Uror County in Jonglei State. Tang Chatim, the Uror County commissioner, told Radio Tamazuj, “On Wednesday afternoon, two vehicles carrying passengers from the state capital, Bor, to Uror were attacked in the outskirts of the Gadiang area. Two people, including former health minister Riek Gai Kok’s wife, Nyawech Lam Makuei, were killed on the spot. Another person was injured while a mother with her three children are still missing.” ....
