Senate Bill 704 would ban the LGBTQ+ panic defense also known as the gay panic defense or trans panic defense from being used in Oregon courts. The panic defense is a legal strategy arguing that uses of force against an LGBTQ+ person are sometimes justified. The shock of learning about a person’s real or perceived queer or trans identity, the defense argues, could temporarily diminish someone’s capacity to make rational decisions, or cause them to reasonably fear they are at risk of sexual assault from the LGBTQ+ person. ....

Portland police are seeking the public’s help in locating a woman who has not been seen by her friends or family in over a week, officials said. The family of ShaRee Rhone, 64, reported her missing to police Tuesday night after not having seen her since Dec. 21. Rhone was last seen at her home on the 4500 block of Northeast Cleveland Avenue. ShaRee Rhone Rhone is 5-foot-5, weighs 200 pounds and was last seen wearing a gray cardigan, gray leggings and slippers. She is believed to be driving a gray 2010 Chevrolet Malibu with sideswipe damage on the driver’s side. The car does not have any license plates, officials said. ....
