The International Chamber of Shipping is calling on governments to put seafarers and frontline maritime shore workers at the head of the vaccine queue and to designate seafarers as keyworkers, to avoid a repeat of the 2020 ‘crew change crisis’.
 ICS is demanding that governments, who are once again restricting travel as a reaction to new COVID-19 mutations, recognise the vital role seafarers play in the global supply chain. 
The shipping industry knows that healthy, vaccinated seafarers are critical in keeping nations supplied with vital goods. Increasingly in 2021, this will include medical supplies such as syringes and the personal protective equipment (PPE) required as part of the roll out of COVID-19 vaccines. ....

The
Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore has a target of administering
10,000 shots to personnel [who] play a major role in keeping the Port of Singapore open and ensuring the undisrupted flow of goods by the end of this month.
Port workers at the front of the vaccination queue include harbour pilots, cargo officers, marine surveyors and marine superintendents.
They carry out essential works including navigation, refuelling, ship repair and maintenance, as well as operations to transfer cargos.
Harbourcraft and ocean-going crew who are Singaporeans and long-term residents living in the community are also prioritised for vaccination, the authority said. ....

As COVID vaccine rollout to frontline workers takes center stage all over the world, seafarers and aviation workers are being prioritized alongwith healthcare workers, and Singapore has taken the lead in this matter as it has said that maritime workers would be getting the vaccine on priority.
Singapore became one of the first countries to prioritise COVID-19 vaccinations for frontline maritime personnel.
