Air Force chief RKS Bhadauria on Thursday said that the latest light combat aircraft Tejas is far better and advanced than the Chinese-Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets, adding that it is well equipped to carry out Balakot-type airstrikes.
In an interaction with ANI, the Air Chief said the 83 indigenous fighter jets to be inducted into the force would also be equipped with homegrown weapons such as the Astra beyond visual range air to air missiles and other standoff weapons. ....

New Delhi: In a big push to “Make in India”, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday approved the procurement of 83 Tejas Mk-1A fighter jets for the Indian Air Force from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, in the largest-ever indigenous military aviation deal worth around Rs 48,000 crores. ....

Bolstering IAF's Fleet Strength: Modi Govt Clears Procurement Of 83 Tejas Fighter Jets From HAL For Rs 48,000 Crore

The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), the highest decision-making body for security issues headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (13 January) approved the purchase of 83 Tejas Mark 1A fighter jets at a cost of Rs 48,000 crore, including infrastructure.
The CCS approved the largest indigenous defence procurement deal worth about Rs 48,000 crore to strengthen the Indian Air Force s fleet of homegrown Light Combat Aircraft (LCA)-Tejas. This deal will be a game changer for self reliance in the Indian defence manufacturing, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said.
The LCA-Tejas is going to be the backbone of the IAF fighter fleet in the years to come. LCA-Tejas incorporates a large number of new technologies many of which were never attempted in India. The indigenous content of LCA-Tejas is 50 per cent in the Mk1A variant which will be enhanced to 60 per cent. ....
