SRINAGAR: Two days after a fierce encounter with security forces led to the death of three youths in the Kashmir Valley, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday said that 2 out of those 3 were working as “overground workers” for the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist outfit.
The police said that the trio killed in Parimpora was “radically inclined” and the claims by the family of one of them – Aijaz Maqbool Ganai – that he had gone to the university to fill up a form was found to be a lie on investigation. ....

Lawaypora Gunfight: One of slain militants never went to university to fill in form as claimed by parents, police say

Srinagar: Police on Friday disputed the claim of parents of one of the slain in Wednesday’s gunfight on Srinagar outskirts that he had gone to the university to fill in his form.
In a statement issued Friday, police said that the Lawaypora encounter “started with army inputs and eventually fructified into a joint operation of Army, CRPF and Police”.
It said that after the cordon was laid, militants lobbed grenade from inside and fired upon search party.
” Although as per SOP, militants were repeatedly appealed by the troops to surrender in the evening and again in the morning, however, instead of surrendering, they fired upon troops and eventually got neutralised in a fire-fight, ” police said. ....

Two of the three youths killed in an encounter with security forces in the Parimpora area of the city were radically inclined and working as overground workers of the Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terror outfit, police said on Friday and added that the case was being investigated.
In a statement here, a spokesman of the Jammu and Kashmir Police said the claim of the family of one of the trio Aijaz Maqbool Ganai that he had gone to the university to fill up a form was verified through modern techniques and was found to be untrue.
The families of the slain youths have claimed that they had no connection with militancy. They staged a protest outside the police control room here and claimed that those killed included a Class 11 student, a university student and a carpenter. ....

J&K Police maintains '3 killed in Srinagar gun battle' had terror links

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday maintained that the three persons killed in an encounter in Srinagar city s Lawaypora area had terrorist connections, and refuted the claims of the family members of one of those killed that he had gone to the university to fill a form.
The three Aijaz Maqbool Ganai, Ather Mushtaq and Zubair were killed during an encounter with the security forces on Wednesday.
According to the police statement, the Lawaypora-Srinagar encounter started after army inputs and eventually turned into a joint operation by the Army, CRPF and the Police. ....
