The midnight sale ahead of the Muslim festival Aidil Fitri will not be held this year in Indonesia's capital Jakarta, home to about 10 million population and epicenter of the Covid-19 transmission in the country, according to a municipal government official announcement.
The Indonesian government has declared May 2 and 3 as national Aidil Fitri holidays, alongside mandatory collective leave on April 29 and May 4 to 6, an arrangement that will see many offices closed for the whole first week of May.
The Indonesian government has announced extended Aidil Fitri leave days for this year and vowed to ramp up the rollout of booster shots across the country as it seeks to strike a balance between lifting mobility restrictions while also limiting the risk of rising Covid19 cases during the festive period.
