(Photo by Joshua Spaulding) ( click for larger version) June 03, 2021GILFORD Members of the Gilford track team didn t have to travel far for the Division III State Meet, as Gilford High School played host to the championships on Tuesday, May 25, and Wednesday, May 26. This year, to keep the number of athletes to a minimum, the meet was divided into two meets, with the girls competing first on Tuesday and the boys following on Wednesday. The story of the boys State Meet was Patrick Gandini, as the Gilford sophomore claimed the title in the three distance events. ....

For the Gilford girls, Riley McDonough won the 200 meters with a time of 31.87 seconds and Shea Brown ran to second in 33.97 seconds. Lindsey Sanderson took the top spot in the 800 meters with a time of 2:45.83 and Taryn Wernig finished in second place in a time of 3:14.78. Abby Shute won the high jump, clearing three feet, 10 inches. She also took third in the long jump with a distance of 12 feet, 9.5 inches. ....

The duo of Aiden Bondaz and Mitchell Townsend finished in the top three in both legs of the Division II championship to lead the Golden Eagles to the title on Thursday, March 4, at Great Glen Trails in Pinkham Notch. This year s race was a different format, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic that forced teams to separate a little more. Each school s racers were on the course at the same time, with each school separated by about 15 minutes.
