Ex-World Taekwondo Africa leader Fouly posthumously awarded Cheongryong Medal

Tuesday, 4 May 2021 Former World Taekwondo vice-president and World Taekwondo Africa head Ahmed Fouly has been posthumously awarded the Cheongryong Medal, the highest Order of Sports Merit honour available in South Korea. The award is in recognition of Fouly s outstanding contribution to the development and promotion of taekwondo in Africa. Hazem Mostafa Ibrahim Fahmy, Egypt s Ambassador to South Korea, accepted the Cheongryong Medal at a ceremony also attended by World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue. Fouly s family were unable to travel to South Korea for the event because of the global health crisis. The Egyptian official died in September 2020, age 70. Gen. Fouly was a great man of taekwondo, Choue commented.

Former World Taekwondo Vice President Gen. Ahmed Fouly posthumously awarded Cheongryong Medal by Korean government 04/30/21 Gen. Ahmed Fouly was today posthumously awarded the Cheongryong Medal, the highest Order of Sport Merit from the Korean government, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the national propagation and development of Taekwondo. The late Gen. Fouly was recommended by World Taekwondo for the award given his exceptional work in promoting and developing Taekwondo in Africa. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family of Gen. Fouly could not travel to Korea to receive the award on his behalf and so the medal was delivered to His Excellency the Ambassador of Egypt to Korea, Hazem Mostafa Ibrahim Fahmy. The award was presented by the Korean Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Mr. Hwang Hee in the presence of World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue.

Choue claims World Taekwondo stronger than ever despite challenging 2020 Friday, 1 January 2021 World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue has claimed the governing body heads into 2021 stronger than ever before after negotiating the challenges posed by the coronavirus pandemic. Choue said World Taekwondo can enter the new year, set to include the postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games, with a renewed sense of optimism and hope for the future . Writing in his New Year s message, the South Korean official also reflected on 2020, which he described as a very challenging year for all of us . But because of the work we all did together we are well placed to emerge stronger than before; and that is precisely what we will do, he added.
