An additional 2,000 families have been displaced in Afghanistan amid deadly clashes between security forces and Taliban insurgents in eastern Laghman province that borders Kabul, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The National Security Council (NSC) said mounting Taliban assaults in Laghman has forced hundreds of families to flee. “Ask the Taliban where and to whom the ‘Islamic system’ is being implemented. With their arrival [in Laghman] institutions have been looted and people are fleeing,” NSC spokesman Rehmatullah Andar tweeted. ....

An additional 2,000 families have been displaced in Afghanistan amid deadly clashes between security forces and Taliban insurgents in eastern Laghman province that borders Kabul, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Ghani discusses peace, aid with German FM

President Ashraf Ghani met with Germany’s Foreign Minister Heiko Maas in Kabul Thursday and discussed the Afghan peace process and bilateral relations, said the Presidential Palace (ARG) in a tweet.
“Mr. Maas stressed that despite the withdrawal of the German troops from Afghanistan, Germany remains committed to the government and people of Afghanistan,” added ARG.
Meanwhile, the German Foreign Minister said in a series of tweets that Afghanistan still needs international aid.
Germany’s foreign minister said: “Even the Taliban know this wounded country is in massive need of international aid. This will most certainly end if the Taliban reverses what has been achieved in Afghanistan in terms of human rights and democratic standards.” ....

Two children among 7 killed in Taliban attack in Baghlan: police

At least seven people were killed by unknown armed men after Tarawih prayers in northern Baghlan province, sources said Friday.
Baghlan police told Arina News that the Taliban militants opened fire on worshipers outside a mosque in the Khinjan district of the province on Thursday evening.
Baghlan police spokesman Ahmad Jawid Basharat said that the incident happened in the Walian Valley in the district.
Basharat added that two children were also among the victims.
He stated that two Taliban assailants were shot dead and one other was wounded by the security forces.
In a separate incident, meanwhile, two civilians were gunned down by the Taliban on Thursday night in Baharak village of the Khost district of the province, sources said. ....
