Disney has named Luke Kang president, The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) Asia Pacific to oversee its business in Southeast Asia, Greater China, Japan, Korea, and Australia/New Zealand. Disney will name the leader for is India business in early 2021. The appointment comes as Uday Shankar is stepping down from his role as president, The Walt Disney Company Asia Pacific and chairman, Star and Disney India, effective 31 December this year.
In his role, Kang (pictured) will drive Disney s strategy and growth in the region and oversee its media networks, direct-to-consumer offerings including Disney+, media distribution and motion picture businesses, as well as other operations across Asia Pacific (excluding Disney parks). Disney will be discontinuing its linear pay-TV channels, Disney Channel, Disney XD and Disney Junior in Malaysia come this New Years Eve.
Local satellite and cable operator, Astro has confirmed the development, adding that the channels will not be available in Malaysia from 1 January 2021. It had recently announced that it will begin to offer the refreshed Kids Pack for its customers starting from 15 December onwards.
The shutting down of Disney’s kids channels hints at Disney+’s entry into the market. It has been more than a year since Disney+ launched but is yet to make its way to Malaysia. But this recent news indicates that the streaming service might finally arrive in the market. ....

The Walt Disney Company will be launching its much-awaited streaming platform Disney+ in Singapore next year on 23 February 2021. Singapore is said to be the first market globally to launch Disney+ with all six content brands.
