Two cops plead not guilty to accepting bribes in Penang court

BUTTERWORTH: Two policemen pleaded not guilty to multiple charges of bribery at the Sessions Court here on Tuesday (April 27).
Bribery charges were slapped on Corporal Mohamad Faizal Hashim (five counts) and Inspector Syed Amir Syed Kamarul Baharim (one count), dating back to 2016.
The 35-year-old corporal and 37-year-old inspector were jointly charged with receiving a RM1,500 bribe from an Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) agent provocateur named Shahrizal Abdul Rahman, who used the alias Faizal Rahim.
The two are accused of receiving the bribe as an inducement to not take action against Faizal s illegal ketum business under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act at Restoran Mashitah Tomyam in Kepala Batas on July 23,2016 at around 8.30pm. ....

Foreign worker jailed two months for attempting to bribe policeman with RM150

BUTTERWORTH: A Bangladeshi man was jailed two months by a Sessions Court for trying to bribe a policeman when he was detained for not wearing his face mask properly at a shopping mall here.
The furniture shop worker, only known as Jahir, 49, was also fined RM10,000 in default two months jail after he admitted offering RM150 to a policeman while on his way to a police station in a patrol car.
According to the facts of the case, Jahir had gone to a shopping mall in Prai to to buy a handphone on Feb 21.
However, upon returning home and discovering that the phone wasn t charging properly, he returned to the mall to get help from the outlet where he had bought the phone. ....

District health officer pleads not guilty to eight counts of bribery

BUTTERWORTH: A district health officer pleaded not guilty in a Sessions Court here to eight counts of bribery involving RM25,887 over the purchase of cleaning products.
Sumardi Yazid, 40, denied four charges of having proposed Syarikat Perkhidmatan Disinfeksi GMY, belonging to his younger brother, as supplier of various cleaning supplies such as garbage bags, spray cans and other general items worth RM13,890 at the district Health Department clinic in Berapit, Bukit Mertajam on March 8,2016.
He also faces four counts of proposing the same company to supply RM11,997 worth of general cleaning items at the same place between Aug 1 and 9,2016.
Sumardi was alleged to have committed the offences when he was the then assistant environment health officer at the clinic. ....
