On Friday, March 5, 2021, it was the turn of Agege, a town renowned for trade and commerce, to welcome the âGreater Lagosâ train of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu administration as a new dawn was heralded in the town.
On that day, the long-sought relief from choking vehicular gridlocks finally came the way of residents in the axis as Governor Sanwo-Olu inaugurated the Pen Cinema Bridge and five major road networks in the area.
Former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who was a special guest at the event, described the project as âneeded catalystâ for the resuscitation of economic activities on the axis.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday, said the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge was at 20% completion when he took over the wheel of governance from his predecessor, Akinwumi Ambode, in May 2019.
The PUNCH had earlier reported that Ambode, who started the 1.4 kilometre-long bridge in 2017, was conspicuously absent when Sanwo-Olu; All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu; and other prominent politicians inaugurated the Agege-Pen Cinema Bridge on Friday.
Ambode lost his re-election bid in 2019 due to intra-party wrangling in the APC within the state. Ambode has not also been seen at any state function with Sanwo-Olu or Tinubu since he exited government in May 2019.

Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Friday inaugurated the 1.4km Dual Carriageway Flyover Bridge in Pen Cinema Junction, Agege.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sanwo-Olu said that the flyover would reduce travel time and save man-hour that would have been otherwise lost to traffic on the road.
He said it would provide better riding surface, leading to reduced maintenance cost; boost interconnectivity and generally make life more meaningful to commuters in the state.
According to him, government will prioritise continuation of strategic ongoing roads and link bridges as well as development of new roads.
