The Agape Family Life Center has been open since 2007.
“Our mission is to focus on education, wellness, and nutrition,” said Dr. Ponchitta Young, Assistant Director of Agape Family Life Center.
When the pandemic hit they struggled with the rest of the Okatie community.

Hardeeville school hosts COVID-19 vaccine clinic
Bill and Camille Pirre were excited about getting their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine Friday.
The Sun City couple attended a vaccine clinic at Hardeeville-Ridgeland Middle School hosted by Coastal Carolina Hospital in partnership with the Jasper County School District and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control. Why take chances? Camille said. We are living our lives in our houses and Bill only went out to get groceries. The only time we went out to a restaurant was for Bill s birthday and we dined outside.
Camille said she hopes the vaccine will allow her to rejoin a group of women in her neighborhood who had to stop playing cards together after the pandemic began. She said their communication changed to emails because of the virus.
Jasper County foundation receives funds for tutoring
A local foundation is helping students with their school assignments thanks to a grant it recently received.
The Legacy Foundation of South Carolina, a nonprofit working in Jasper County, was awarded $4,800 by the Lowcountry Community COVID-19 Response Fund to assist third- through sixth-grade students with an online tutoring program for eight weeks. It is working with the Jasper County School District to provide tutoring for 40 students. We felt these funds will help us meet the families and students where they were, as they are in the midst of this pandemic, said Maurice Lawyer, the foundation’s chief operating officer.
