A leading Nigerian priest and scholar has told the country’s bishops conference that the credibility of the Catholic Church in Africa’s most populous nation is being eroded by the explosion of ministries within the Church.
“There are so-called ‘revival churches’ or Pentecostal communities that wage “guerrilla warfare” on spiritual terrain, in the sense that they bitterly fight the Catholic Church,” said Archbishop Bienvenu Manamika Bafouakouahou of Brazzaville.
Two Nigerian professors have been elected into the American Academy of Arts and Science. They are Professor Jacob K. Olupona of the Harvard Divinity School and Dr. Muhammed Pate of Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health.
