How permit rules on foreign artistes will hurt Uganda
The crackdown by the Directorate of Citizenship and Immigration Control (DCIC) on foreign artistes and journalists without work permits could have far-reaching implications to the entertainment industry and international conferences in Uganda.
Last weekend, police arrested Nigerian artistes, who had performed in Kampala City without a work permit and violating the standard operating procedures put in place to control the spread of Coronavirus.
The spokesperson of DCIC, Mr. Jacob Siminyu, said the Nigerian artistes arrived in Uganda on tourist visas and performed illegally.
“They were supposed to be tourists in Uganda. They were breaching the law,” Mr Siminyu said in an interview. ....

Uganda drops charges against Nigerian artistes Omah Lay, Tems
Government of Uganda Tuesday dropped charges against Nigerian artistes Stanley Omah Didia, alias Omah Lay, Temilade Openiyi, alias Tems and their manager, Muyiwa Awoniya who had been remanded to prison for the offence of neglect act likely to spread COVID-19.
The trio will fly out of Uganda tonight following a mediated diplomatic run.
.the accused persons (Muyiwa Awoniya, Temilade Openyi and Stanley Omah Didia) were charged with the offence of neglect act likely to spread an infectious disease contrary to section 171 of Penal Code Act. The charges against the accused has been withdrawn against them. This is to direct you to release the said accused persons from your custody forthwith unless held on other charges, reads the withdraw form signed by grade one magistrate Jude Okumu. ....
