The U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation, Zalmay Khalilzad, on Monday met Chief of the Army Staff Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed matters of mutual interest, according to a statement issued by the military’s media wing.
Khalilzad was accompanied by Gen. Scott Miller, the commander of the Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan, read the statement. Gen. Bajwa, meanwhile, was accompanied by senior military and intelligence officials, as well as Special Assistant to the P.M. on National Security Moeed Yusuf and Special Representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq. ....

ISLAMABAD: United States Special Envoy for Afghan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday visited Pakistan as part of Washington’s new diplomatic push on the Afghan peace process.
Khalilzad met Army Chief Gen Qamar Bajwa at the General Headquarters. Besides the senior military and intelligence leadership, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on National Security Moeed Yusuf and Special Representative for Afghanistan Ambassador Mohammad Sadiq also attended the meeting. ....

Too Early to Say How Afghan Talks Going: US
The US State Department said on Monday that it is too early to say how Afghan peace talks are going, but the United States believes this is a moment when progress is possible, Reuters reported.
Reuters reports that State Department spokesman Ned Price also told a regular news briefing that the US special envoy for Afghanistan, Zalmay Khalilzad, would be based in Doha for some time.
“We have continued to encourage all sides to take part constructively and with a degree of alacrity, knowing that this is a moment in time where progress is possible,” Price said. “We want to do everything we can to facilitate that progress, to support dialogue, the inter-Afghan dialogue between the various parties. That’s precisely why we’re there.” ....
