The situation at columbia escalated about 24 hours ago when the protesters broke into historic Hamilton Hall building. And just a few hours, officers in riot gear entered that building and swiftly made arrests. Columbia university has, of course, been the epicenter for propalestinian protests that have now spread to campuses around the country. Hundreds of students have been arrested nationwide and upcoming commencements are in danger being canceled. van buren county, north of little rock. several homes were damaged, cars were tossed off the road. a popular church was torn apart. justin lewis from affiliate katv is live in arkansas this morning. good morning again, justin. reporter: good morning, john. we re about 75 miles north of little rock here in van buren county. behind me is what remains of a church sanctuary here. this is a foursquare church. i confirmed this morning, at least six homes completely were demolished yesterday from this storm. now, when we got here we saw trees down, debris, things everywhere, people everywhere trying to pick things up. i ran into one young man and asked him how the road was we were heading on. he had a chainsaw in hand and he began to tell me how the storm almost hit his home. he was outside helping out his neighbors trying to clear the road in this rural part of van buren county.
it was about 30 miles outside of st. louis. no injuries reported. a similar scene north of little rock, arkansas. a tornado left a path of destruction 30 miles long. three people hurt. 33 homes damaged. one church absolutely demolished. justin lewis of affiliate katv joins from outside of that church. it s amazing no one was hurt inside that church. reporter: exactly. hi there fwen. you talked about 30 homes damaged. we re expecting that number to rise as we get around the country. this is what we talked about. the church that was damaged. we re actually standing in what used to be the sanctuary. as you can see there, that s the pastor up there trying to kind of salvage anything he can from this church at the time. in the distance we hear many chainsaws going off. people just trying to really put together the pieces at this point helping out. there s a whole crew. that home on the other side of that home completely gone. that s the youth director of this church. that s his house. tho
