Healthy aging. The Senate Special committee is chaired by Susan Collins of maine. The morning. Thgood morning. The committee wio order. For the next 12 years, 10,000 americans will turn 65 each day. Last month i officially joined that club. By the median age, maine is the oldest stage in the nation. They save 65 or older accounted for 19. 4 of the population of the state in 2016. That is an increase from 2010. No matter where in the country you live, when americans think of turning 65, we think of medicare and Social Security as well as we should. Theres also an opportunity to plan for a brandnew chapter as more start living longer. More than one out of four who lived tlive to age 65 can expeco live into their 90s. Americans to 85 or older are the fastestgrowing segment of the population. For many the long jeopardy means an additional three decades following what was once considered the time to retire. We need to plan to aid successfully and achieve the new chapter of continued growth
Be deciders of their fate. And im curious about a comment that was made that the European Union is better for the usa, quote end quote. My question is why . What can you share with us that would help convince me that it is in americas best interest to have a European Union as opposed to not having one in as much as our relationship with europe was good in both contexts . I think i said lets all take a swing at it. The eu whatever its current problems may be, is a Major Economic block in the world and Major Trading partner. Is that good or bad for us if they have collectively xr more strength . A prosperous european economy and european growing is one that american businesses can send and sell more products to and investors can make money investing in europe. Do you have data that shows europe was growing slowing before the eu as opposed to after the eu . In the 1990s in grew quite well as did we. He has had it happened problems since 2008, we recovered more quickly than europe has. Thi

Aware of the risk. We are studying and adapting to these risks to identify, prioritize, and develop Effective Solutions to future vulnerabilities. Thankthank you very much. Thank you, admiral. Members of the committee. Congressman thank you for what you do. Distinguished colleagues on the panel and in the audience thank you. I speak today for the over 200,000 members of the Chesapeake Bay foundation, board, staff. Chesapeake bay is Getting Better but it is still a system dangerously out of balance. I use the word system because science has taught us to realize that the chesapeake is a collection of all the rivers and streams which feed into it. Of course the main stem. Fortunately theyre is a plan in place to restore the chesapeake and all the rivers and streams. It is called the chesapeake clean water blueprint or the mother of all t mdl. It is a heavy left. And Global Climate change will add to the burden. We are seeing the impact now right before our eyes. Chesapeake Bay Foundation
I knew him in a different context. In the 111th congress, he directed a project for the senate libraries. It was in that context that i got to know him. I will never forget the feeling of relief i had when anthony brought the experiment of the subcommittee and decided the budget to come on a tour. As the librarian, i got to give the tour. Correct me if used some very colorful language, and i walked through the library and explained to him how we were going to turn what had been a private library into a nonprofit library. It was a joy in disbelief for them to see. It was a joy to know they were supportive of what we were doing. I will always be grateful to him for that. I am equally grateful, and thats why he is here today, that he took time to write a book. He was working on this before he started working for the government. Some people go into government and then write a book. But he wrote this before. There are not many people in our country who think deeply about the Library System.
