It all began in 2004, when Texan billionaire Robert Bass decided to re-commercialise supersonic aerial travel by launching Aerion Supersonic. By 2021, it had a backlog of $11.2bn – or 93 orders – for its AS2 supersonic jet. And soon after announcing the near-hypersonic AS3, a new concept, the company ground to a halt, shutting down unexpectedly last weekend.
At $120m each, the Mach 1.4 AS2 promised to connect any two points on Earth

Back in March, Aerion Supersonic unveiled its AS3 concept, a Mach 4+ commercial airliner capable of carrying 50 passengers at a range of 7,000 nautical miles. Its plans didn’t stop there as the company just announced its new flight service called Aerion Connect that claims to provide „a seamless point-to-point travel experience.”

Aerion Supersonic is currently working on its AS2 model that will enter the production stage in 2023. In preparation for the first supersonic business jet launch, the airline has integrated Aerion Connect to coordinate travel from the starting point to the customer’s destination.
It’s not the first time we hear about the platform. Last month, the airline was announcing its partnership with NetJets to build the new app. The travel solutions will feature flights on an AS2 jet, but the service is not limited to AS2 customers. ....

Aviation giant NetJets has announced a collaboration with one of the forerunners in delivering supersonic travel, Aerion, and FlightSafety International, the leaders in aviation training services, as part of a shared ambition to shape the future of global mobility.
The collaboration secures
NetJets’ purchase rights for 20 of Aerion’s AS2 supersonic business jets, strengthening Aerion’s competitive position in the ongoing supersonic race and extending the global AS2 order backlog to over $10bn.
