The East-Central Africa Division (ECD) is pleased to inform the Seventh-day Adventist Church members and the public that pastor Lameck Barishinga was released from the Bujumbura Central Prison in Burundi on February 10, 2021.
Pastor Barishinga is a faithful servant of God in the Adventist Church in Burundi. On October 24, 2019, he was arrested and jailed for his faith. Since then, the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists has mobilized brothers and sisters all over the world to pray for him and the whole church in Burundi.

It was a familiar setting for Zarith Méndez, as she set out to answer Bible questions as quickly and as accurately as she could in front of the computer. Méndez answered 99 out of the 100 multiple-choice questions correctly, beating her three rivals during Inter-America’s quinquennial Bible Connect competition, on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021. She was crowned the champion of 2015-2019 and will represent the Inter-American Division (IAD) as a youth delegate during the Adventist World Church’s General Conference Session next year in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States.
Much like she did when she first won the IAD Bible Winner title in 2016 against 22 other contestants in the Dominican Republic at only 15 years of age, she breezed through the 100 questions on Saturday, finishing almost two minutes ahead of the first runner up. Inter-America Expands Cross-Cultural Mission Training to 700 Regional Leaders

In an effort to continue expanding mission outreach to different people groups across the territory, the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Inter-America, during a recent training symposium, equipped more than 700 of its church leaders, administrators, pastors, and mission coordinators to build bridges to Muslims. The first-of-its-kind event, coined as the Adventist Muslim Relations Training Symposium, sought to provide new knowledge, skills and attitudes as mission leaders engage in dialogue with their Muslim friends.
The six-day virtual symposium on Islamic studies began on Jan. 11, for several days after and ended with a certification ceremony on Feb. 1, 2021.
Inter-America’s Upcoming Youth Bible Competition Will Crown Top Winner for the Quinquennium

The four previous winners of Inter-American Division’s annual, territory-wide Bible Connection competition will get a chance to battle it out on Saturday, Jan. 30, 2021. The winners will answer dozens of questions on the Book of Psalms during the two-hour online event. The bible competition will crown the top winner for the 2016-2020 quinquennium.
Zarit Mendez of North Mexico, the 2016 winner, Francisco Jané of Central Mexico, the 2017 second-place winner, Edna Ventura of Chiapas Mexico, the 2018 winner, and Veronica Solis of Chiapas, Mexico, the 2019 winner, will get a chance to test their bible knowledge for the ingle spot as a youth delegate to represent the Inter-American Division during the Adventist World Church’s General Conference Session, re-scheduled to take place in Indianapolis, United States, June of 2022.
