Editor’s note: The Advance Leader is only spotlighting contested races in the primary election. Plum residents have a plethora of candidates seeking both the Democratic and Republican nod for four school board seats this year. A dozen hopefuls, including two incumbents, have cross-filed for the May 18 primary election, according to the Allegheny County Office of Elections unofficial candidate list. Current board members are Angela Anderson and Joe Tommarello. Other candidates include Devin Adams, Megan Chuderewicz, Sheleah Fronckowiak, Justin Newman, Mandee Pettyjohn, Don Pytel, Raymond Rall, Renee Richardson, Melissa Russell and Ronald Sakolsky. LIGONIER â All West Noble student athletes must have a new sports physical, dated after April 1, 2021, on file with the school before participating in any summer activities, include weights, practices, conditioning and sports for the 2021022 school year. Summer activities begin June 7. West Noble and St. Martinâs Healthcare are partnering to provide high school and middle school students with affordable, convenient physicals which will be done during the school day. Physicals will be done Tuesday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the high school. A donation of $20 is expected by St. Martinâs Healthcare. Cash, money orders or checks are accepted. Checks should be made payable to St. Martinâs Healthcare. ....
LIGONIER â Ligonierâs no stranger to annual safest city rankings, and the west-side community is back nearly at the top of the charts on a new ranking. Ligonier was rated the second-safest small city â communities with less than 10,000 residents â by online insurance website AdvisorSmith. Ligonier finishes just behind Berne, a small community with a large Amish population in southern Adams County, in the listing. Other area communities also charted in AdvisorSmithâs rankings. Garrett was seventh safest in the small city category, while Auburn ranked fourth among midsize cities with populations 10,000-50,000. Fort Wayne was fifth overall for large cities with populations over 50,000. ....
