Only two area football teams still in the hunt for a state championship. Buford and Jefferson moved into the state finals in their respective classifications after taking wins on Friday night in the semifinal round of the Georgia High School Association football playoffs. In a battle of the state s most prolific state title winners, Buford blew past Valdosta 45-26 at Tom Riden Stadium in Class 6A. Victor Venn rushed 12 times for 134 yards and three touchdowns, while Gabe Irvin Jr added 94 yards and a score. Buford will go for its second consecutive state title after winning the Class 5A crown in 2019. ....
HOGANSVILLE Callaway held the state’s highest-scoring offense in any classification to just 10 points en route to a 41-17 blowout over No. 2 Rabun County Friday night at Callaway Stadium. The Wildcats’ march to Georgia State Stadium came to an end at the hands of Class 2A’s top defense (13 ppg, 10 ppg in playoffs) in a battle that the Cavaliers imposed their will. Rabun’s best highlight of the semifinal matchup came in the second quarter when Gunner Stockton connected with Adriel Clark on a 20-yard touchdown pass with 4:02 left in the first half. The catch was Clark’s 28th of the season giving him the Georgia state reception record in a single season. ....

TIGER When Adriel Clark transferred from Riverside Military Academy to Rabun County late in the summer, it was seen as perhaps a key ingredient for what was already a potent Wildcats offense. They already had the nation’s No. 1 junior quarterback prospect in the country in Gunner Stockton (South Carolina-commit), a slew of receivers for their high-flying spread attack, and arguably their best offensive line in school history returning. Clark was seen as a deep ball threat that could help stretch any defense. But it’s doubtful that even Wildcats’ coach Jaybo Shaw, the architect of the state’s most potent 2020 attack (604 points, 47.0 ppg), could have foreseen what was to come. ....
AccessWDUN has three teams from its coverage area still playing for championships. We will look at the Class 2A bracket today, which houses Rabun County. The Wildcats (12-1) are into just their second-ever Final 4 in program history but know how to win at this level having advanced to the finals in 2017 in their only other attempt. They will take on Callaway in Hogansville with a shot at their second championship game appearance. Jefferson County will travel to Fitzgerald in the other Class 2A semifinal. Fitzgerald knocked off Jefferson County earlier in the season, 14-12, in a non-region matchup in Week 2. ....
