Adrianne Harun in Conversation with Jess Walter Combining a perhaps long-forgotten historical moment with the unforgiving landscape of the Pacific Northwest, award-winning author Adrianne Harun’s new novel On the Way to the End of the World feels both fresh and familiar. Set in 1963, the novel revolves around a group of quirky characters who take up President John F. Kennedy’s “50-Miler” walking challenge, which the president made into a public, patriotic propaganda event of sorts at the end of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Yet when the unlikely walking companions of Humtown, an isolated mill town, stumble upon the abandoned car of a missing mother, the ensuing mystery reveals much, much more about each of them.
