After months of reading and hearing about so many complaints, blame and helplessness about the state of downtown Portland, I have two suggestions.
First, Katherine Sealy owns Event Cosmetics in the heart of downtown Portland. She has kept her small business alive and open throughout much of this year. Her store is brightly lit, and the window front is filled with color and beauty. Katherine is always present with a big welcoming smile. Her store sticks out like a brilliant bloom in the gloom of boarded up businesses. So, if you are a business owner, make your store a welcoming, beautiful space, from the outside as well as inside. ....
