Russia’s war against Ukraine is shattering the conventions of warfare in many ways. One of the most illustrative examples is the systematic destruction of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet (BSF) by Ukraine, a country that has virtually no navy of its own. The Ukrainian military’s use of coastal missile systems, air-launched cruise missiles, and sea and air drones has forced Russia to up its Black Sea port defenses and create a naval base in Russian-occupied Abkhazia.
In the course of two years, Ukraine has managed to neutralize Russia’s Black Sea Fleet and reopen its shipping lanes. All achieved practically without a navy.
The United24 platform, together with other volunteers, is raising UAH297.5 million (approx. US$7,647,814.91) for the construction of 35 Sea Baby maritime drones, with one million UAH (US$25,950) being raised within the first hour of the campaign.
Dmitry Pletenchuk, Ukrainian navy spokesman, said President Vladimir Putin s prized fleet was now shifting its focus to defending base points and training.
