The Oxford County Commission on Thursday hired four new correction officers and promoted another officer to sergeant/supervisor. County commissioner Thursday approved bids for food services and medical services, that last two major items required to make the switch. During a statewide jail consolidation in 2008, directed by former Gov. John Baldacci, the jail was turned into a 72-hour holding facility. The county boards its inmates at Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset. It cost the county $520,000 in 2020 to board those prisoners. In 2019, that cost was $777,500. The county budgeted $340,000 to cover the first six months of 2021 until the planned July opening. ....
Read Article PARIS The Oxford County Commission authorized the purchase of up to six vehicles for the Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday. Emerson Chevrolet of Auburn was the low bidder for the Chevrolet Tahoes at $39,117 apiece or $234,702 for all six. The price does not include money from trade-ins. Oxford County Sheriff Christopher Wainwright said his department would clean up the vehicles and offer them in a separate sale. He said he expects to get $10,000 per vehicle. Others bids were submitted by O’Connor Auto Park in Augusta and Quirk Chevrolet of Bangor. Commissioners enacted the 2021 county budget of $11.7 million as presented by the Budget Committee plus a 1 % overlay. ....
