Deaths a 'lagging indicator' of Covid, will stabilise soon: Gagandeep Kang


India s leading virologist Dr Gagandeep Kang has said that since the number of Covid-19 cases in the country has stabilized now, the number of deaths due to the virus will also stabilize soon and if it fails to do so then it can only point to an issue with reporting systems.
Kang, a member of the Supreme Court-appointed committee on medical oxygen in an interview to ANI said, Death is a lagging indicator, it comes two to three weeks after case numbers climb. Now that the numbers have stabilized, we should expect deaths to also stabilize and start to taper off. If they do not, there is an issue with some aspect of our reporting systems. ....

Cyclone Yaas: Bengal, Odisha evacuate hundreds of thousands to safety


Neighbouring Jharkhand has also sounded an alert and is preparing for the cyclone s impact.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that her administration has evacuated over nine lakh people to safe shelters.
The Odisha government, on the other hand, said it has moved over 2 lakh people from vulnerable areas in coastal districts to safety.
IMD Director General Dr Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said that Yaas is likely to intensify into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) by Tuesday evening. He said the cyclone s impact will be severe for six hours before and after the landfall and Chandbali will witness the maximum damage. ....

NBCC (India) gains on bagging PMC services work order


NBCC (India) rose 1% to Rs 50.65 after the company said it bagged letter of award for construction & development of permanent campus of National Institute of Technology, Uttarakhand.
NBCC (India) has been awarded the work order for comprehensive design, engineering and project management consultancy (PMC) services for construction & development of infrastructural facilities in the main campus of National Institute of Technology at Sumari (Pauri Garhwal) in Uttarakhand.
NBCC is the project management consultant for this project of the value Rs 596.75 crore.
NBCC (India) s consolidated net profit surged 74.6% to Rs 96.98 crore on 8.4% increase in net sales to Rs 2,078.18 crore in Q3 FY21 over Q3 FY20. ....

PG Electroplast suspends operations of its AC manufacturing unit


PG Electroplast announced that manufacturing of Air-Conditioners at company s manufacturing unit situated at Supa MIDC, Dist. Ahmednagar, Maharashtra has been temporarily suspended due to lack of industrial oxygen.
Also, the business in other manufacturing units is severely impacted for the month of May, 2021 due to temporary shutdowns at the company s major customers end for the period of next one to two weeks.
However, all other operations are in full compliance of the regulatory norms.
