The city Common Council voted 6-0 Tuesday night to authorize the borrowing of up to $2 million for emergency repairs to restore electric power to the Gloversville-Johnstown Joint Wastewater Treatment Facility.
Mayor Vince DeSantis described the accident at the sewer plant as “a disaster” that needs to be addressed “immediately, right now they’re operating much of the facility with generators.”
Sixth Ward Councilman Wrandy Siarkowski, a seven-year veteran member of the joint sewer board in charge of the wastewater facility, Tuesday night said the sewer plant started experiencing “rolling blackouts” sometime on Thursday. He said sewer plant officials brought in a consultant familiar with the plant’s early 1970s vintage power lines, which run through old Orangeburg pipes made from layers of ground wood pulp fibers, a type of piping in use before PVC pipes. ....

JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Industrial Development Agency board recently reviewed a 2020 Payment In Lieu of Taxes, or PILOT report.
“Each year, we monitor the PILOTs,” said IDA Executive Director James Mraz. “We have to make sure the companies are making the payments we require them to make.”
The agency board monitors all PILOT agreements it has on projects to verify that PILOT payments are being made per the agreements. Each year, the IDA sends a letter to every company it has a PILOT with asking that they fill out a PILOT report. The IDA also sends a similar letter to all local taxing jurisdictions impacted by an IDA PILOT. The information from local taxing jurisdictions is used to compare against the information received from companies. ....

JOHNSTOWN The Fulton County Industrial Development Agency continues to be involved in sewer work and projects in and around the developing Tryon Technology Park in Perth.
The IDA board on Tuesday continued discussion on a plugged sewer that was discovered in June at Tryon.
IDA Executive Director James Mraz updated the board on the situation, noting that Adirondack Septic was hired and rerouted sewer flow around the plugged line. The work was completed, but the plugged main needs to be repaired.
At its Nov. 10 meeting, the IDA board authorized execution of an agreement with Pareene Contracting to replace the entire section of sewer main between two manholes, and replace two sewer plug valves. ....
