UPDATE: One killed, several injured as NURTW factions clash in Ondo

Members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ondo State engaged themselves in a free-for-all fight in Akure, the state capital, causing pandemonium as they used dangerous weapons to fight themselves.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning when some members of the factional group of the union invaded the Old Garage area of Akure and started shooting sporadically, killing a member of the union with two others injured.
The incident happened barely 48 hours after the factional group of the union clashed at Owode area of the state, injuring many people.
It was gathered that the drivers were fighting over management of parks even after the Ondo State government had ordered the suspension of driver’s unions activities in the state for two weeks. ....

Ondo suspends NURTW indefinitely

Activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have been suspended indefinitely in Ondo over the clashes between different factions of the union.
Members of the union fought over the control of motor parks on Tuesday, leading to the death of one person.
At a press conference in Akure, the state capital, Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu asked NURTW members to stay off parks.
He condemned the “unruly and uncultured” behaviour that led to violent attacks on members and citizens.
The unionists on Tuesday caused pandemonium around Oja Oba, Adesida Road and other parts of Akure, shooting sporadically while residents scampered to safety. ....
