With just three and a bit weeks to go, the South Wales Argus team is really looking forward to the online event, which can be watched on our Facebook page from 7pm on Thursday March 11. Everybody tuning in can expect an uplifting evening, with some great stories to dispel the winter gloom and showcase the very best of human nature and people’s endeavours to help others in Gwent. Along with Simon, who will be our host for the evening, there will be a number of household names adding their congratulations to the winners and finalists. But the real stars will be the men, women and children nominated for this year’s awards, which we’ve taken online to keep everybody safe. ....
“With the coronavirus pandemic raging through much of 2020, we knew we would receive some exceptional entries, but we’ve been astounded by some of the things we have learned about the people of Gwent,” he said. “It’s been a distressing year and it’s heartening to see how so many have rallied round to help others.” He also paid tribute to people who have given their time and energy over many years to help make Gwent a better place. “The city of Newport and our towns and villages are full of unsung heroes,” he said. “We hope the Pride of Gwent Awards will shine a light on some of them.” ....
