Businesses get more than £20 million in restart funding

HARD-HIT retail and hospitality businesses in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole have been given more than £20 million to help reopen as lockdown restrictions are eased, new figures show. The funding from the Government s £5 billion Restart Scheme has been welcomed by council leaders who have urged businesses to act quickly to get the money distributed. Latest figures from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy show BCP Council had issued £23.5 million in grants to 3,142 businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors under the scheme up to the end of May. It came from a £25.6 million pot given to the council, which leaves £2.2 million to still give away by the end of July.

Restart Scheme provided Cheshire businesses with £15m

HARD-HIT retail and hospitality businesses across Cheshire – including those in Northwich – have been provided with more than £15 million to help reopen in line with the easing of lockdown. The funding came from the Government’s £5 billion Restart Scheme, which has been welcomed by council leaders, but they have urged councils to act quickly in getting the money distributed.. Latest figures from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy show Cheshire West and Chester Council had issued £15.6 million in grants to 2,002 businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sectors under the scheme up to the end of May. It came from a £19.9 million pot given to the council, which leaves £4.3 million to still give away by the end of July, designed to boost the economy ahead of the lifting of restrictions.

It came from a £5.8 million pot given to the council, which leaves £1 million to still give away by the end of July.
