Okorocha also announced scholarships to the children of the six civilians who died in the incident. The senator representing Imo West, who made the announcement when he visited the traditional ruler of Uzoubi Umuna Autonomous Community, Boniface Okereke, on Friday, advocated national unity. He expressed regret that Orlu, known as one of the most peaceful local governments in the state in particular and the nation at large, could be in the news for the wrong reason.

Punch Newspapers Sections Chidiebube Okeoma, Owerri The Governor of Imo state, Hope Uzodinma, has approved the recommendation for the sacking of the Vice Chancellor of Imo State University, Owerri, Prof Adaobi Obasi. Uzodinma’s Chief Press Secretary, Oguwike Nwachuku, in a statement on Friday, said the decision to sack the VC was reached during the executive council meeting chaired by the governor. Nwachuku stated that the VC, who is an aunt of a former governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, would stop functioning in that capacity from December 30. He said that the council approved the forensic audit of the state’s university amid monumental corrupt practices contained in the report of the visitation panel that recently investigated the university’s activities between 2012 and 2019.

…says VC’s tenure ends December 30, 2020 Imo State government has approved a forensic audit of the state’s university amid monumental corrupt practices contained in the report of the Visitation Panel that recently investigated the university’s activities between 2012-2019. The government has also okayed December 30, 2020, for the Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Victoria Adaobi Obasi, to stop functioning in that capacity. The Executive Council of Imo State government gave the approvals on Wednesday, December 16, 2020, insisting that forensic audit of the University’s finances has been necessary if the effort of Governor Hope Uzodimma as the Visitor of Imo State University to reposition the institution must not be a waste.
