Council OKs budget changes

Galt City Council approved adjusted budget numbers at its June 15 regular meeting while granting City Manager Lorenzo Hines increased authority to shift funding. Council also accepted a revised framework for improvements to Carillion Boulevard and swore in new members of the Youth Commission.
Budget adjustments
The midterm changes to the city budget reflect rising costs, new and continuing projects, and recovery from the coronavirus pandemic, Hines told council members. The adjustments apply to the current 2020-21 fiscal year and the 2021-22 fiscal year, which begins on July 1.
On the revenue side, property tax income for both fiscal years was revised upward slightly, by about 2%. Sales and use tax revenue is also increasing, coming in 1% higher than expected in the current year and anticipated to be nearly 7% higher than originally projected in the coming year. ....

GYC learns the ropes of being a team

Learning to work together as a team was one of the goals for Galt Youth Commission (GYC) members Monday, June 14 when they tackled the Venture On Challenge Course in Stockton.
The ropes course is designed to provide challenges that help individuals and teams to push beyond their perceived limits, to work effectively with others, to trust and think creatively about problems, all while having fun.
The high adventure was the first in-person event for the commissioners, many whom had only met through a computer screen.
âSince I am a new member and because of COVID, all of the commissioners hadnât really had the chance to interact with each other in person, so having this retreat was a great opportunity to get to know each other,â Liberty Ranch High School senior Damaris Ramirez said. âIn this retreat, I got to know more about my fellow commissioners and mentors.
