Mutawakilu kicks against proposed tariff increment LISTEN 5 HOURS AGO A former ranking Member of Parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee, Adam Mutawakilu has rubbished proposals by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) for tariff increment. He says the ECG has not demonstrated its capacity to effectively manage its resources hence there is no justification for an increment in tariffis. Speaking on Eyewitness News, the former Damongo legislator said ECG is undeserving of an increment if it is unable to prove how it is tackling the about 25% losses it suffers to technical and commercial issues. “How much of our monies is being lost? If that is not tackled, then we are wasting our time on this. They are just taking money from Ghanaians and wasting it. Lack of dynamism from GRIDCo caused power cuts – Mutawakilu LISTEN MAR 8, 2021 A former Ranking Member on Parliament’s select committee on Mines and Energy, Adam Mutawakilu, says the Ghana Grid Company s (GRIDCo) inability to adjust its system in response to power supply challenges in the Western Region led to Sunday s nationwide power cuts. In an interview with Citi Business News, Mr. Mutawakilu highlighted the need for a dynamic system to effectively respond to such challenges, as well as the need for a constant supply of fuel to emergency plants to enable them supply power in times of such challenges. “Whenever there is this fault in generation, there is the need for other generating plants to come on board. The Ameri deal was signed by the government in 2015 at a total cost $510 million to provide 230 megawatts of power for five years. This was done to assist in resolving the power crisis at the time. Although Ameri Energy wrote in September 2020 to inform the government of its intention to hand over the plant by the date stated in the contract, the government of Ghana has not yet carried the necessary steps to ensure a smooth handing over. ....
