At a first glance, it would seem the BBC s new binge-worthy true-crime drama The Serpent - which tracks the menacing tale of French serial killer Charles Sobhraj and his accomplice Marie-Andrée (played by Tahar Rahim and Jenna Coleman respectively) as they seduce and prey on Westerners traveling along the hippie trails of Southeast Asia - would offer little in place of beauty style notes. But then again, this is the 70s we re talking about.
Amid wholly deplorable crimes, the backdrop of mid-1970s Bangkok is artfully glamourised through high-waisted flare trousers, gemstone green tailored suits and patterned hair scarves, to portray the very thing the killers used to lure their victims: themselves, or at least the false version of themselves they hoped others would fall for.
