Virtual candidate forums to begin next week

Virtual candidate forums to begin next week Kirksville Daily Express Area voters will get to hear from candidates for several local elections beginning next week. The Kirksville Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Committee is hosting multiple virtual candidate forums ahead of the April 6 election. The events will be held via Zoom and streamed on the chamber’s Facebook page. The first forum will feature candidates for the Kirksville City Council at 6 p.m. on March 16. Kevin Alm, Kabir Bansal, John Gardner and Dana (Danny) McDowell are the four candidates running for one, three-year seat on the council. Candidates for the Kirksville R-III School Board will be part of another forum later on March 16. Those candidates include Nick Billington, Pamela Barnett, Mikey Bishop, Angela Caraway, Jaimee Miller and Bret Davidson.

Removal of mask mandate in Kirksville, Adair County will be discussed in coming weeks Kirksville Daily Express The mask mandate covering Kirksville and Adair County could be on its last legs over the next few weeks. The Adair County Health Department’s Board of Trustees will discuss its mandate at its next two meetings, which will happen on March 22 and April 26.  Jim Lebaron, the health department’s administrator, said he wouldn’t be surprised if its mandate was lifted within the next two months. Cases have been dropping in Adair County, with the health department reporting 150 new cases in February. That’s a steady decrease from 396 in January, 543 in December, 590 in November and 262 in October.
