(WASHINGTON) The Capitol Police Union blasted the department’s leadership one day after congressional testimony by acting Police Chief Yogananda Pittman, who said that the department knew two days before Jan. 6 that there was a “strong potential for violence and that Congress was the target.”
“The disclosure that the entire executive team (former Chief [Steven] Sund, now Acting Chief Pittman, and Assistant Chief [Chad] Thomas) knew what was coming but did not better prepare us for potential violence, including the possible use of firearms against us, is unconscionable,” union Chairman Gus Papathanasiou said in a statement Wednesday. ....

The union representing U.S. Capitol Police officers rebuked the department’s top brass Wednesday, arguing that leadership failed to relay key information to officers in advance of the Jan. 6 riot that left cops with severe brain injuries, and one who is going to lose an eye. 
Capitol Police Labor Committee Chairman Gus Papathanasiou responded in a statement to what he described as a startling admission made by Chief Yogananda D. Pittman before the House Appropriations Committee that angered and shocked the rank-and-file officers. ....

WASHINGTON The union representing U.S. Capitol Police officers issued a stinging rebuke of department leadership Wednesday, arguing the organization’s top brass failed to relay key information to officers in advance of the Jan. 6 riot that left personnel with severe brain injuries, and one who is going to lose an eye, according to reports.

Capitol Police union says acting chief 'failed' officers, Congress


Nearly 140 other officers are suffering both physical and emotional wounds from that day.
Then-Police Chief Steven Sund resigned after the deadly breach, as did two other officials tasked with securing the Capitol, the House and Senate sergeants-at-arms, Paul D. Irving and Michael C. Stenger. All three roles are now being filled by acting officials, including Pittman, who had been an assistant chief.
Testifying before lawmakers in a closed-door hearing Tuesday, Pittman apologized to Congress and the public for the massive security failure and made a stunning admission that police leadership had compiled intelligence at least two days earlier that armed militia and white supremacist groups had planned to do harm at the Capitol. ....
