Catherine Precious, the previous head A YORK school is on the lookout for a new head. An advert has gone out for a new head at Hempland Primary Academy in Heworth after the previous boss stepped down a year ago. As The Press reported back in April last year Catherine Precious, who took over the leadership post at Hempland in September 2019, decided to leave for personal reasons . Lee Haynes, head teacher of Acomb Primary School, has since been acting as the interim executive head for both Hempland and Acomb. Mrs Precious moved to Hempland in Heworth from Tang Hall Primary School where she had been head teacher since September 2013.

Martha, who was in her final year at the school, wrote to her head teacher asking if she could raise the money to buy a defibrillator. When he said yes, she set out to do exactly that. She started writing letters to local businesses, organised a no-uniform day - and even staged a film night at the school.
