Australia and the United States have joined efforts with Indonesia with the commitment of two ships and an aircraft respectively, in its search for the missing submarine KRI Nanggala (402) in an area 25 miles north of Celukan Bawang Beach in Bali.
In a press conference, the head of the Indonesian Armed Forces Information Centre, Maj. Gen. Achmad Riad, said the new search area was based on oil slicks and strong magnetic readings. He said 21 Indonesian Navy ships, including submarine KRI Alugoro (405), along with four Indonesian national Police ships, were currently involved in the search efforts.
Indonesia is racing against time to locate the submarine, as it was estimated that the boat only had enough oxygen to last until 3:00 a.m. Indonesian time on Saturday, 24 April. ....

Missing Indonesian submarine believed sunk as debris is found, Navy says
Indonesia’s Navy changed the status of its missing submarine from “sub miss” to “sub sank” on Saturday, as a naval chief presented debris believed to be from the vessel at a news conference.
Authorities now expect to carry out an evacuation process to recover the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine and its crew when they pinpoint its exact location, Indonesian Navy Chief of Staff Yudo Margono said.
The latest update came as hopes faded for the 53 crew members, who were expected to have run out of oxygen early on Saturday. So far, no sign of them has been found, Yudo said. ....
