ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) – The Ithaca College Contingent Faculty Union has begun negotiations on its next contract with college administration.
The Ithacan reports the current collective bargaining agreement was set to expire in May of 2020, but was extended by a year because of the pandemic.
The public health crisis and the recent Academic Program Prioritization effort by the college, which cut many of the contingent faculty positions, have both greatly shaped the Union’s goals for protections for its members.
The Union is pushing for support for terminated faculty members at risk of losing their visas and helping to facilitate unemployment insurance claims.

ITHACA, N.Y. (WHCU) Students enrolling for a fall semester at Ithaca College are striking out on some courses.
The Ithacan reports a reduction in enrollment and planned staff cuts from the Academic Program Prioritization are causing several hundred courses to disappear from a list of options for Fall 2021.
Registar Vikki Lavine tells the paper she hasn’t seen any increase in concern among students or faculty about the limited course offerings, but she does believe it has a lot to do with a lower enrollment.
In February, Ithaca College President Shirley Collado announced the APP plan would be fully implemented. It includes cutting 116 full time faculty positions.
