一、“下江南”意象是运河文化和江南文化相互交融的产物。古代江南，水乡泽国，以河代路，是船的天下。《越绝书・吴地传》记载，春秋时期吴国曾在其腹地开“吴古故水道”，“出平门，上郭池，入渎，出巢湖，上历地，过梅亭，入杨湖，出渔浦，入大江，奏广陵”，连接起苏州和扬州，从而沟通了太湖和长江流域；向南开“百尺渎”，“奏江，吴以达粮”，从而沟通了太湖和钱塘江流域。吴古故水道和百尺渎所构成的水道，是江南河即江南运河的前身。此外，越国疏浚了“山阴故水道”（《越绝书・地传》），这是浙东运河的前身。公元前210年，秦始皇凿丹徒水道，取直江南河的北段；三国时孙权进行疏浚，邗沟和长江船只从“丹徒水道入通吴、会”（《南齐书・州郡志》� ....
