Help from public wanted as Northumbria Police crack down on slavery


Northumbria Police are asking for the public’s help to eliminate modern day slavery as part of a national campaign to stop human trafficking.
The news of the crackdown comes after a nationwide campaign called Operation Aidant has been launched to find and prosecute criminal gangs who deliberately attempt to target, deceive and then exploit people who are hoping for a better life.
Earlier this week, the force raided locations in the West End of Newcastle that saw four women moved to safety after its believed to have been trafficked from Romania and employed as sex workers.
Modern day slavery and human trafficking are some of the most appalling offences we deal with as they strip people of their liberty and their dignity,” said Detective Chief Inspector Graeme Dodds who is part of the Complex Abuse Unit at Northumbria Police. ....
