Money Laundering Trial: Maina's son loses bid to re-open defence

The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Wednesday, declined to allow the son of former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina, Faisal, to re-open his defence to the money laundering charge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, preferred against him.
The court, in a chamber ruling that was delivered by trial Justice Okon Abang, held that the application the Defendant filed to recall all the witnesses the EFCC brought to testify against him, lacked merit.
Justice Abang accordingly dismissed the application, even as he fixed May 18 for the anti-graft agency to adopt its final written address to enable the court to deliver judgement in the matter. ....

Court denies Maina bail over alleged N2bn pension fraud

The Federal High Court, Abuja on Thursday dismissed the bail application brought before it by the former chairman of the defunct Presidential Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina for lacking in merit.
Maina, who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is standing trial for alleged fraud and money laundering to a tune of N2 billion.
While ruling on the bail application, Justice Abang held that Maina who fled the country after he was granted the first bail could no longer be trusted for bail relief.
The Judge described Maina, who was rearrested in Niger Republic and extradited to Nigeria by the International Police as a flight risk adding that he would not take the second risk of granting him another bail. ....

Court fixes Feb 25 to rule on Maina’s fresh bail request

ABUJA–The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Friday, slated February 25 to rule on fresh application the former chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Taskforce Team, Abulrasheed Maina, who is facing money laundering charge, filed to be released on bail pending the conclusion of his trial.
Maina, who earlier fled to Niger Republic after he was released on bail by the court, based his fresh application on health ground.
He told the court that his health condition worsened at the Kuje Correctional Center where he was remanded upon his extradition to the country by the Interpol in December, 2020. ....
