4 years later, Syrian families face barriers and overcome challenges

A four-year study to learn more about Syrian refugee families settling into Canada has provided more insight into the challenges and barriers that newcomers face.
Since 2017, Western University researchers have been following Syrian families who have settled in London, Calgary and Fredericton to see how they ve been adjusting to a new country.
Abe Oudshoorn, a nursing professor at Western University in London, Ont. and the principle investigator for the study, says his curiosity for the families  future eventually led him to lead this project. ....

Audiences, it seems, enjoy watching nice, destitute people pull themselves from the ditch of penury. It can renew your flagging sense of optimism about your own life – the human condition, late capitalism, the venal political class, state-sanctioned theft of your life savings, and so on. ....
