The Kofi Annan Foundation and the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD-Kenya), with the support of the United Nations Democracy Fund (UNDEF), are co-hosting a two-day hybrid workshop with election stakeholders to address the issues facing Kenya ahead of its upcoming elections in 2022.
In his condolence message, the President eulogised the veteran politician, who until his death was the co-chair of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Taskforce, as a dependable Kenyan leader and patriot.
“It is very unfortunate that we have lost such a dependable, solid and highly accomplished Kenyan leader,” President Kenyatta said.
“Mzee Haji was a highly respected leader and elder whose wisdom, deep knowledge of the Kenyan society and long experience as a public administrator enabled him to serve the country in various leadership roles with distinction for many years,” he said.
The President said the death of Senator Haji was a big blow to the country especially in the BBI constitutional reform process where his leadership shall be dearly missed.

The Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) will end the marginalisation of pastoralist communities as every region will get an equitable share of national resources, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has said.
He asked Kenyans to reject those spreading propaganda that BBI was about creating positions for the political class, saying the document would spur economic growth and foster cohesion in the country.
“I am here today to make a passionate appeal to you the people of Garissa and North Eastern at large to join other Kenyans of goodwill in passing this document. We shall have failed as leaders if we don’t point out areas of benefit to you,” he said.

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has called upon political leaders to respect President Uhuru Kenyatta.
He said this while on a tour of Faza Island in Lamu East Constituency in Lamu County, where he was on a Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) popularisation campaign.
“Let all Kenyans respect President Uhuru Kenyatta. He is the President till August 2022 and when he leaves, whoever will be elected will also want to be respected,’’ said Moi.
Moi said the benefits of BBI to Lamu East residents are many and therefore asked them to support it.
