AT exactly 8:15 pm, April 20, 2021, the ruinous ring of kidnapping for ransom extended its orbit of terror when at least 23 students and staff were kidnapped in Kasarami village, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, during an attack by suspected armed bandits at Greenfield University. Both local and international social media platforms went berserk, detailing and condemning the kidnap, with police authorities confirming the abduction, saying that suspected armed bandits infiltrated the institution in large numbers and abducted the students while killing one member of staff. Outrageously, the abductors had informed both government and parents of their abductees that they would collect N800 million as a ransom for the release of their captives.

Bandits who abducted some students of Greenfield University in Kaduna have threatened to kill the remaining ones still in captivity if their demand for ransom is not met by today.
In an interview with the Voice of America (VOA), Hausa service, one Sani Jalingo who claimed to be the leader of the abductors, warned that if the state government or parents of the students fail to pay a ransom of N100 million and provide them with 10 new Honda motorcycles by today, the remaining students would be killed.
This is coming as no fewer than 17 villagers were feared killed in a fresh attack by suspected herdsmen in Benue State.
Jalingo further disclosed that the families of the remaining students had so far paid N55 million. He said the money was used to feed the abductees.
He said, “We heard the utterances of the Kaduna State governor that he will not pay ransom to bandits to purchase additional arms.

“You will use trucks to carry the dead bodies of the remaining students. 17 of the students, 15 females and two males, are with us. The families of the remaining students paid N55 million to us.”
