Yorgen Fenech donated money to the Nationalist Party and was also given stories about the party to leak to rival media, former PN executive Pierre Portelli confirmed under oath on Wednesday.
Portelli, who headed the PN’s media arm between 2017 and 2019, confirmed that Fenech’s Tumas Group was among firms that donated money to the party, albeit “not regularly”.
He recalled sending Fenech a text message in March 2019 asking the business magnate for help to process a donation that the PN needed to pay for workers’ salaries.

The Nationalist Party has said that Prime Minister Robert Abela’s inaction over claims surrounding parliamentary secretary Rosianne Cutajar are leading to impunity.
The Times of Malta on Sunday reported that Cutajar had pocketed €9,000 from a €3.1 million Mdina property deal with Tumas magnate and alleged Daphne Caruana Galizia murder mastermind, Yorgen Fenech.
Last December MaltaToday had reported that Cutajar and her political aide had received some €100,000 in brokers’ fees for the sale of the Mdina property.

Cutajar partnered up with her associate Charles Farrugia, known as it-Tikka, to broker the €3.1 million property deal between Fenech and the property seller Joseph Camilleri.
The Labour MP, who at the time served as commissioner for reduction of bureaucracy, met the 17 Black owner in August 2019 for the cash exchange as the parties in the property sale moved closer to signing the final deed. Three months later, Fenech was arrested in connection with Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder.
